Most needs of a home fire protection program center on the type of fires that a typical ABC rated fire extinguisher protects against. Class C fires involve electrical equipment. For an extinguisher to have a C rating it must have an extinguishing agent which is non-conductive.
Fire extinguishers are UL rated according to the square footage of fire suppression capability for a novice operator. For example a 10 in a UL rating means a novice should be able to successfully extinguish a fire in a ten foot square area with the fire extinguisher carrying that rating.
